I’m interested in coaching but I’m not sure what it entails…

FAQ
What are the time commitments? A typical ASC recreational team will have one or two practices a week, for an hour, depending on age. A season is usually 10 weeks of games, with games in the afternoon mostly held on Saturdays in the Fall and Sundays in the Spring (although there are occasional
double header weekends and make-up games).

I’m not sure if I’m ready to be a head coach…can I just help with a team? Yes! When registering, there is an option to select ‘assistant coach.’ Coaches are also able to ‘co-coach’ with another coach.

What kind of soccer background do I need? Coaches are not required to have played the game. At the elementary level, the coach is tasked with creating an enjoyable and teachable environment. ASC will reimburse coaches who pursue the United States Soccer Federation F and E licenses.

How do I get gear? Once placed with a team, each head coach is given an equipment bag complete with cones, discs, pennies, balls and a first aid kit if they don’t already have one. More information will be given to you after registration.

Where will my team practice? Teams practice in the same geographical area as the school that the majority of the players on the team are from. In the high school ages, where teams are formed from a variety of schools, practice locations are based on field availability. If a team is interested in turf fields, they can schedule to rent a field at the beginning of the season.

Can I choose the field where my team practices? Coaches can request a field through, however, they cannot always be fulfilled due to field space limitations. Worth a shot though!

Can I coach my kid? Yes! To coach your child’s team, please add your child’s name in the appropriate field during coach registration.

I know that I won’t be available every weekend to coach. Can I still  Yes! Please register as a head coach. Once complete, communicate with your club manager that you need an assistant, and we will find someone to work with you!coach?

Any resources to help me become a better coach? Yes! Please see our website for more information.
